Reducing stream from HD to SD?

Hey, our bandwith is not strong enough to handle stable HD live streams at home. there are several ideas solving this issue. What might be the easiest?
One idea is to grab the HD stream at work where we have enough bandwidth and encode it down and stream it home in SD quality.
Any ideas?
